It can be said, however, that the Blu-ray adds a bit more vibrancy to the image and a slightly added kick over the SD. Whether that was an intentional choice to hide the seams of a production brimming with ambition but lacking in finances remains to be seen.

    This is less true with the BD relase, though the film inherently doesn't aim for the fences with regard to the overall elevel of clarity. There's a softness to Bousman's imagery here, and while the light blooms and reflects with operatic panache, the detail is rarely, if ever, allowed to shine through. Black levels work to highlight the striking contrast between the candelabras and stone of Old World architecture and the neon tech of a gothic, 22nd century future. And the Blu-ray does a sufficient job with the transfer, offering a presentation slightly better than the standard-def release. Visually, there's the suggestion of greatness here, but if you're willing to give credit where credit is due, the film looks substantially better than it has any right to given the budget. Video and Presentation At some point during the commentary on Repo, one of the creators comments, "We wanted it to look like Blade Runner crossed with Rocky Horror," and if he'd only added the phrase, "But made with a lot less money," to the equation, they might have been right.
